After agreeing on general requirements, pricing and timing, I conduct a 30-60 minute phone conversation to be sure I completely understand the message(s) the customer wants to convey, and the nature of the target audience. Within five to ten working days of this initial call, I produce a detailed outline (or a prototype in the case of an email newsletter) for the customer to review. I then produce a first draft of the deliverable within another five to ten working days of receiving feedback on the outline, and a second (and usually final) draft within another five to ten working days of getting feedback on the first draft. The more specific and detailed you can be about your needs at each step, the faster a project generally goes and the more satisfied you will be with the outcome.
Pricing
I generally charge on a per-project basis, depending on the amount and type of research required, the length and complexity of the deliverable, and other factors such as unusually tight deadlines or last-minute changes in requirements. Newsletter pricing is based on frequency of publication, the amount and type of content required, and the size of the mailing list, among other factors. I am also available for a limited amount of per-hour editing or rewrite work.
